Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and ban on mass gatherings, Cleveland Chamber Choir and BlueWater Chamber Orchestra have canceled our collaborative May 2 performance of With Heaven and Earth. While this is disappointing news, this decision was made to protect the health of our artists and audience.
As we come to terms with the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing will have on our organization, we remember our artists are the ones most directly affected by this and numerous other concert cancellations. Many face a prolonged period of serious financial hardship. Cleveland Chamber Choir is paying our contracted performers partial fees from the canceled concert to help them through this unprecedented situation. The majority of our artists have chosen to direct their payment towards a fund to support those within the group facing financial difficulty.
Inspired by the generosity of our own artists, Cleveland Chamber Choir has created More than Music Artist Relief Fund, a fundraiser to support local performing musicians impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. Following the wonderful example of Artist Relief Tree , a fundraiser collecting donations to distribute globally, we are accepting applications on our website to distribute a one-time, first-come, first-served $100 to artists that apply. This fund will help those pursuing careers as performing musical artists, with income directly impacted by the COVID-19 health crisis, and residing within the Ohio counties of Cuyahoga, Lorain, Medina, Portage, and Summit. The number of requests we are able to fulfill is contingent upon the amount of money we are able to raise.
Your generous support will help Cleveland-area musicians through these difficult times. Please help us spread the word about the fundraiser by sharing this information far and wide.
WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?
The current worldwide health crisis has had a severe impact on arts and culture across Northeast Ohio. Concerts and productions have been canceled, including Cleveland Chamber Choir’s joint concert with BlueWater Chamber Orchestra. These cancellations have caused many artists to lose economic stability, to the extent they may need to choose between paying rent or purchasing groceries and medications. Inspired by our own artists’ generosity towards those of us severely impacted, we want to expand this generosity to support musicians from the wider Cleveland area. Now is the time to support the arts by supporting the artists.
WHAT WE HOPE TO DO
Collect donations from those with the means to help. This money will be used to support performing musicians, particularly freelance musicians, residing in the counties of Cuyahoga, Lorain, Medina, Portage, and Summit (counties where CCC singers reside). We want to ensure that as many artists as possible receive at least a little bit of help in these challenging times. Hope and solidarity help too. We are offering a one-off, first-come, first-served $100 for artists who apply (and meet very basic criteria - see below), contingent on the amount of money we raise.
HOW IS IT GOING SO FAR?
We need your help to find donors and supporters and networkers to continue to find donations.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFO
1. 100% of funds will be distributed to artists as needed. No one working behind the scenes is collecting a percentage or cut of these donations; likewise, CCC will not benefit from funds donated to this fund. A separate account line is managed for donations directed to CCC.
2. We plan to continue to collect and distribute funds as long as there are funds available and the need is evident. If the fund runs out during the campaign, we will keep it open until more funds become available for the next applicant in line. Once we deem the current crisis reasonably past and life back to “normal” we will announce the end of the campaign.
3. Please don’t hesitate to reach out [email protected] with questions or concerns. We have been inspired by the actions of many around us, including our very own singers, and were compelled to take this action on behalf of freelance musicians in Northeast Ohio.
