
Originally from Savannah, Georgia, Matthew Jones, tenor, is currently based in Cleveland, Ohio. A frequent orchestral soloist, his concert engagements include Mozart’s Requiem (Stow Symphony, OH; Trinity Chamber Orchestra, Cleveland; Painesville Chamber Orchestra, OH); Handel’s Messiah (Savannah Symphony; Cleveland Messiah Chorus; Trinity Chamber Orchestra, Cleveland); Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (Savannah Philharmonic); and Bach’s BWV 8 (Trinity Chamber Orchestra, Cleveland). Acclaimed for his “lively agility for dancing, and his light timbre,” Jones’ recent operatic engagements include the role of Sportin’ Life from Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess with The Cleveland Opera, Opera of the Western Reserve (Youngstown) and the Piccolo Spoleto Festival (Charleston). He also appeared with The Cleveland Opera, Great Lakes Light Opera (OH), and Cleveland Public Theatre. A frequent recitalist, Jones has given countless performances of living composers. He has worked directly with H. Leslie Adams, Dolores White, Ja Johannes, and Buck McDaniel. Additionally, Jones has performed with several professional choirs including Cleveland Chamber Choir, Taylor Festival Singers (Charleston), CityMusic Cleveland, Savannah Philharmonic, Contrapunctus (Cleveland), The Cleveland Opera, and the Trinity Chamber Singers (Cleveland). Matthew holds a Master of Music in Voice Performance degree from Cleveland State University, and is on the voice faculty at The Cleveland Music Settlement, Center for Music.
